About the Director: Omar Beretta

Omar Beretta is an Argentine filmmaker, writer, former lawyer, and co-founder of the PutoElQueLee podcast. His work explores queer identity, cultural displacement, desire, memory, and resistance, shaped by his background in fiction, philosophy, human rights activism, and Latin American political thought. His creative path has taken him from Buenos Aires to Amsterdam, the Peruvian Amazon, Indonesia, Paraguay, and Cuba. Omar is currently based in Bangkok.

Several of his world premieres took place not at prestigious institutions but at porn film festivals, gay saunas, and queer nodes of resistance that deliberately sidestep established cultural centers

Frequently Asked Questions

I specialize in heartfelt, story-driven short films that explore LGBTQ+ experiences, cultural identity, and human relationships. I'm particularly drawn to projects that prioritize authentic storytelling and emotional depth over spectacle.

My approach is collaborative and actor-focused. I believe in thorough pre-production, working closely with cinematographers and production designers to establish a strong visual language. On set, I prioritize creating a safe, supportive environment where actors can take risks and deliver authentic performances.

I work on shorts, though I am currently working on a script for a feature film.

My directing process is rooted in improvisation, accidents, and imperfect takes. I create conditions where performers, locations, and unforeseen events can shape the film, allowing reality to push back against the script. The camera acts as both witness and accomplice, pursuing moments that feel discovered rather than staged. The most valuable scenes are often the ones nobody planned.

I focus on projects related to post-porn politics, anti-capitalist critique, and queer desire.

I believe in guerrilla cinema and the ethical independence of staying away from mainstream producers. My work was nominated for Best Low-Budget film by FilmHaus and received an Honorable Mention at Cine Pobre, which recognized the world’s best self-funded films
